Data Protection Policy
World Vision respects your privacy. Our promise to you is that the information you give us will be treated in total confidence and will be stored and processed in accordance with your rights under The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of 2013. We will use your personal information to provide you with the World Vision services or activities to which you’ve signed up and, from time to time, we would also like to send you information about other areas of our work which we think might be of interest to you. If at any time you would prefer not to receive this additional information from us, please do not hesitate to contact us on the details given below.
We will make every reasonable effort to ensure that appropriate security is in place to protect your personal details from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure. World Vision is compliant with the international Payment Card Industry standard for the secure processing of credit and debit card payments.
We will never share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Where we do use other organisations to carry out fundraising or communications activities and related administration on our behalf, we remain legally responsible for the handling of your data. Formal written contracts and agreements are put in place and their implementation monitored to ensure the continued security of your data.
If you sponsor a child through World Vision, or are involved in some other World Vision activity which involves a personal link to our overseas programmes, elements of your personal data necessary to fulfil the activity (e.g. your name and address) will be shared with relevant World Vision offices in that country. Such countries may not have comparable Data Protection laws to South Africa. We will ensure that the minimum amount of data necessary to fulfil the activity is transferred. The World Vision Partnership is committed to implementing appropriate procedures, internal controls and technical infrastructure to protect personal data in all of its offices.
In accordance with our Child Safeguarding Policy and our commitment to protect vulnerable children from all forms of exploitation and abuse, we may share details, including personal data, relating to serious breaches of our Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures with statutory authorities such as the South African Police Services, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Department of Social Development - Sexual Offences Register.
We will endeavour to ensure that the information we hold about you is accurate and up-to-date. Please do let us know us if your contact details change or if you would like to correct any inaccuracies in the data we hold about you. It is your right under the POPI Act to request a copy of all the information World Vision holds about you. Such requests should be made in writing to the address below and will be fulfilled within 40 calendar days.
World Vision waives its right to charge an administration fee of up to R350 for fulfilling such requests.
