Nqe Dlamini - Vodacom’s Change the World volunteer at World Vision South Africa

World Vision South Africa is one of the beneficiaries in the Vodacom’s Change the World campaign. The third group of the Change the World volunteers was announced on April 24, 2013 in Johannesburg. These courageous individuals have given up their daily jobs for a year to help make a difference in the lives of ordinary South Africans in need. Through this initiative Vodacom aims to mobilise skilled South African individuals to work for a non-profit organisation (NPO) of their choice for a year and get paid a salary.
Speaking at the launch event for this year’s volunteers, Vodacom’s Chief Officer: Corporate Affairs, Maya Makanjee said: “While non-profit organisations rely heavily upon cash donations and corporate funding to achieve their goals, we know that the introduction of skills development through the Vodacom Change the World programme can make a lasting difference in assisting NPOs to achieve their goals in society.
Nqe Dlamini, a 45-year-old freelancer and development practitioner from Pietermaritzburg has chosen to work with World Vision. With extensive work experience in development research and planning, transformative adult education and rural development facilitation, it is no surprise that World Vision became a natural choice for Nqe. He has worked alongside many notable and deserving NPOs for 21 years, amongst them the Institute of Natural Resources, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Built Environment Support Group, the Mvula Trust, and Save Act.
As a current volunteer and board member of the South African Red Cross Society and a current board member of Lima Rural Development Foundation, it is a real blessing for World Vision South Africa to have Nqe on board through this initiative. He was drawn to World Vision, by its presence in communities long after it has carried out its mandate to effectively measure its impact and reach. The initiative underscores the importance of partnerships between the private sector and NPOs in the pursuit of the common goal of building a better life for all.
